The ETRX3 series is the 3rd generation of advanced ZigBee modules from Telegesis and the first module family on the market to feature the EM357 and EM351- the latest ARM® Cortex M-3 SOC's from Ember.

ETRX3 series modules have a footprint of just 19mm x 25mm for both standard and PA/LNA versions which represents a 40%reduction in size compared to the ETRX2 module. They will be available with either an on board antennae or a Hirose U.FL connector to allow connection of external antennae.

A link budget of 105dB on the standard ETRX3 module gives excellent performance and RF power can be further boosted by use of the ETRX3-LR which adds an extra LNA+PA boosting the link budget to 123dB.

The ETRX3 series are low power 2.4GHz ZigBee modules integrating a 2.4 GHz, IEEE 802.15.4 compliant transceiver with up to 192k of flash, 12k of RAM, and many advanced peripherals.

The EM357 and EM351 utilise an efficient architecture that exceeds the dynamic range requirements imposed by the IEEE 802.15.4-2003 standard by over 15 dB. The integrated receive channel filtering allows for robust co-existence with other communication standards in the 2.4 GHz spectrum, such as IEEE 802.11 and Bluetooth.

The ARM® Cortex M3 microprocessor is optimised for high performance, low power consumption, and efficient memory utilisation making it ideal for use in ZigBee applications. To maintain the strict timing requirements imposed by the ZigBee and IEEE 802.15.4-2003 standards, the EM357and EM351 integrate a number of MAC functions into the hardware handling automatic ACK transmission and reception, automatic backoff delay, and clear channel assessment for transmission, as well as automatic filtering of received packets.

ETRX3 series modules work from a 2.1v to 3.6v supply and active power consumption is reduced by over 20% compared to the ETRX2. In deep sleep mode, current consumption is reduced to 800nA and further reduced to 400na if the self wakeup feature is not enabled.

ETRX3 series modules features all the advanced software already present on other Telegesis ZigBee modules such as the Telegesis AT command set which allows the designer to use the functionality of the EmberZNet stack without the need for complex embedded code. Development is also made easier by the addition of an integrated JTAG and debugging interface.

As with all our modules, ETRX3 series devcies are designed to be easily integrated into designs without the need for RF or embedded expertise. Using the latest version of Embers Znet PRO meshing technology ETRX3 family modules allows designers to add the latest meshing radio technology without complex software engineering.

E-T-A Circuit Breakers has expanded its 24 VDC system product range for the automation industry with an enhancement of the successful ESX10-T.

The new ESX10-TD-Vario is track mountable and features a variable current rating selection of 2A/ 4A/ 6A to precisely adjust the product to an existing plant or system. This space-saving device has a width of only 12.5 mm, is 80 mm in height and depth and offers a sophisticated bus bar concept for power supply and zero potential. Both single and group signaling can be individually activated. The snap-on foot of the housing has two moulded caps which can be removed if required and pushed into a matching groove on the side to close off the busbars. This provides reliable protection against contact of the different plus potentials.

The 24VDC power supply and the load connection to the protected plus and zero conductor are by means of a screw terminal for cables up to 10 mm2 , either directly on the devices or on a separate line entry module. The screw terminal is made of a high-strength copper alloy and has been designed to the well-proven Reakdyn principle. It ensures reliable line connection. Typical applications of the ESX10-TD-Vario are compact control units in traditional mechanical engineering, in the chemical/ pharmaceutical/food processing industries as well as in automobile production.

Reliable selective load protection

In the event of an overload or short circuit in the load circuit, the selective load protection will only disconnect the faulty path without any repercussions on the 24 VDC supply, thus avoiding a voltage dip when only one load circuit is faulty which would have all loads connected to the switch-mode power supply fail and probably cause an entire system to shut down. ESX10-TD-Vario limits the short circuit current to 1.8 times the selected rated current and disconnects the faulty circuit after 100 ms. However, inrush peaks will be tolerated so that capacitive loads of more than 20,000 uF and small DC motors will not be a problem. In the event of an overload the circuit protector will electronically disconnect from 1.1 times rated current after 3 seconds.

The current rating of the device can be adjusted in three steps – 2A/ 4A/ 6A – and makes purchasing and stock-taking significantly easier as only one device can be used for different circuits. Marking with an additional warranty label showing the selective current rating ensures that later inconspicuous manipulations after approval of the entire machine or system are excluded.

ESX10-TD-Vario has been tested to UL 2367, UL 508 and CSA 22.2 and is therefore internationally approved as a “Solid State Overcurrent Protector” for applications all over the world.
